MQG Basics Challenge with Riley Blake Designs

Look what Kelly received in the mail this week!

Are you curious?

It's our fabric from Riley Blake Designs for the MQG's Fall Fabric Challenge!!  It was announced in mid-August.

The Basics Challenge with Riley Blake Designs

We are so excited to announce Riley Blake Designs as this year’s sponsor of the 3rd annual MQG members fabric challenge.

Basics! We all love those wonderful basics from Riley Blake. They are generously providing each official MQG member 6 fat eighths from their Basic category. Each member will be receiving fabrics like these colors and patterns.

Guidelines

  • The challenge runs from September 2013-December 2013.
  • Members can make anything they want as long as it is quilted!
  • Add in any solids or Riley Blake printed fabric.
  • You do not need to use all the fabrics given to you.
  • Upload and share your photos to the Fabric Challenge Forum on the Community site.
  • MQGs can create guild specific challenges, as long as the other guidelines are upheld.
  • Don’t forget to use the #mqgrileyblakechallenge on Instagram and Twitter!
  • See the members Community site for sign ups.
  • Fabric sign ups end Aug 31st, 2013
We cannot wait to see what you make!
We signed up by the August 31st deadline, and now the wait is over.  Or at least it will be by our next meeting and sew day - Saturday, October 12, 2013 - when we distribute these little bundles of awesomeness!

Kristi, Cindy, Marcy, Kathleen, Melissa L, Becky, Donna L, Wendi, Elaine, Kasandra, Faye, Kira, Diane, Melissa J, Cricket, Elizabeth, Sheila, Kim, Gina, Annie, Bobbi, Liz, Rhonda, Leslie*, Jennifer*, and Kelly will each receive a bundle.

*(edited to add those who responded verbally)

And there's a little bit of hope for those of you who didn't respond to the Email or who may have just joined us.  There will be a few extras.

As Kelly said "If you're a member, but didn't let me know you wanted to participate, and you want to, we will have a few extra bundles - but it will be strictly first come first served at the meeting."

Thank you MQG and Riley Blake Designs!

October Block Lottery

If you didn't make it to our September meeting two weeks ago, you missed the details for the next block lottery.

All members of ECMQG are invited to create and submit blocks for the lottery.  This is our fundraising choice to help pay our national MQG dues.  To date, we've raised $105.

Each block submitted gives you a chance at winning all of them.  Each block also has an entry fee of $1.

The blocks we're making for the October 12th meeting are pinwheels.  Bright modern pinwheels.

The UNFINISHED block size is 6.5".  The color palette is white & bright.  You can choose solids or prints for your brights.

Please use either Kona White or Kona Snow.  (Yes, they are slightly different, and that will be a presentation topic in the near future.  Stay tuned.)

As always, please use modern, quilt shop quality fabric.

I made some quick phone calls, and both Kona Snow and Kona White can be found locally.

Crestview area:
Margie's - Kona Snow

FWB area:
Sewing Center Around the Block  - Kona White
Lynn's - Kona Snow and Kona White
JoAnn's - Kona White

Pensacola area:
A&E - Kona White & Kona Snow
Hobby Lobby - Kona White
JoAnn's - Kona White

Just as there are shades of white, there are many tutorials available, as well as methods, for making pinwheels from HSTs.  Use what works for you.  Although, this video from the Missouri Star Quilt Company seems to be the go to tutorial for quick and easy.

These fun, bright, modern pinwheels are going to make a beautiful quilt.  The layout possibilities are endless.

Congratulations to Wendi who won the 41 blocks from the September, wonky-cross lottery.

She's already made her quilt top.  I wonder if it'll be quilted by the time we meet again?

Nice job ladies!  Let's see what little beauties you make this month.
